Garmin's worst product support

I bought Garmin Nuvi 42 a few days back. Since then, whenever I turn it on, it keeps saying 'Acquiring Satellites' and after a long time flashes message, 'No satellites are available, do want to continue search?' Thought that this is because the product is not registered. So I tried registering the product but could not, since the device registration site asks to register the device through Garmin Express and the Garmin Express cannot get installed on the computer because it gets stuck while installing the software at 'netfx40clientweb'. There's no other way to install this software or guidelines on software forum to mitigate this problem. The MapUpdater won't install with an error message that the installation file is corrupt. When i tried to upload this problem with the 'email support', it did not let me with an error message, 'Please select a specific device or Garmin software or Other products in step 1.' and the drop down to select the 'Garmin software or Other products' remains blank. Is this a deliberate act by Garmin to obstruct people from bugging the precious Garmin Support individual? There're no dealers' phone numbers by country. By far the worst support I've ever come across.

My friend bought some local made GPS system here in Thailand for cheap cost and it is working better than this Garmin. I'm really not satisfied with this product and especially, the support. I wonder if this is what I've paid so much of money for?

The main problem is the 'Acquiring Satellites' message. Will you please guide me through this problem?

If support really wants to contact me, can get in touch with me on [email protected].
• Does sound like you're having issues, you could try e mailing [email protected] ... I've always had a reply from there and they should be able to help. As for satellite acquisition, ensure the GPS has a clear view of the sky and leave it stationary for around 30 minutes so it can learn where in the world it is. If it still fails to acquire signals, and as it's new, return it to the dealer and ask for a refund or another one. I've never had a Garmin fail to acquire satellites, so yours could simply be faulty.

As for the drop down list etc again I have no issues with it populating. You might want to check your anti-virus and firewall settings, to ensure they're not blocking it.

For your Express specific query what OS are you running on your PC? How are you trying to install Garmin Express?
• Just the first time, it needs to download certain data from the satellites. Once it's done that all should be well, particularly if you switch it on where you last switched it off. In any case once it has the data it needs you'd need to move it hundreds of miles between switch off and switch on to extend the start up beyond a few seconds.

What's the web address of the web page you're going to for Express?
• I'm getting no issues with that page. As I posted, check your AV or firewall isn't blocking it.
• Well the Express team should be along soon, if it's not your AV and/or firewall I'm not sure what the solution is ... I take it you do see the pop up that says 'Do you want to run or save Garmin Express from garmin.download.com' do you? If not check your pop up blocker settings.
• Might be that it *appears* to get stuck but in reality it is installing Dontnet 4.0 framework (plus updates and hotfixes) - if you're low on disc space or have a slow connection that can take a while...
• I would agree with MCHUNNYMONSTER as it will look like it is stuck. Below is a direct link to .Net you can try if you keep getting hung up.

Microsoft .NET Framework 4

On the Acquiring Satellites I would look at resetting your device.

Note: A master reset will erase all favorites1 and will restore your device to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your favorites to your computer, you can find instructions to do so here.
1. Start with the device OFF and unplugged from power
2. Press and hold the lower right hand corner of the display portion of the touchscreen
3. Power on the device while continuing to hold the display
4. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when "Erase all user data?" appears
5. Touch Yes
o If text language is not in English, this is the button on the right
The device will now reset. Follow the on-screen prompts and then place your device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.
Although the master reset will erase all saved favorites, any loaded custom points of interest will remain intact on the device.
