The GPS sites, such as POI Factory have been consistently critical of Garmin Express, until recently. When the most recent versions seemed to finally be getting things right. The numerous updates of the latest version seemed be considered positive, on Garmin's part. I am still sitting on the fence and using Map Updater, but the feedback is getting more positive and I may soon consider using GE.
There had been a sense that Garmin Engineering operated in a vacuum. I have been one that has been very critical of Garmin's engineering, with things like the Traffic Icon that stayed Green, even when there was no signal, despite a manual that says it should turn Grey when there's no signal.
Customer Support could answer these questions, but only the person asking the question would see the answer. Switching to a Forum, like this opens it up for anyone to see the problems (and successes) that Garmin may be having. It is a bit of a risk, but ultimately may create an improved level of trust.
I commend Garmin for starting this forum, where someone can post an issue or a concern, in a very public way, shows courage and forward thinking on Garmin's part. I hope that this now shows a commitment to product improvement, that I felt was lacking in the past. I would like to see this format expanded to include Model Specific questions. This is a positive first step.
