Garmin Express fails to work

I kept getting a message that Garmin Express could not connect to server although I have successfully used it in the past.

Thinking it was a software problem I uninstalled it and then downloaded a new copy.

Now, when I connect it, it first says that Device Found, and then goes on to say that "This device is not compatible with Express". It gives the correct name as Nuvi 2595 but does not add the serial number. (It IS definitely registered on My Garmin)

Any thoughts of how to get over this problem please?
  • Are you working over wifi? If so try cabling direct to your modem if you can. Also try deleting GarminDevice.xml file in the Garmin folder on your nuvi. Reboot it which Will recreate that file. Now try again.

    Thank you for trying to help. I am not working over WiFi - direct cable to USB port in Windows 7 PC.

    Deleted file as above and restarted unit. File recreated as intended.

    Is there any special way to re-boot the device other than just turning it on?
  • The message you are receiving can occur when either the application is unable to communicate with the server or your specific device is setup incorrectly in our data base. I have verified the your device is setup correctly so the issue appears to be connection related. I suggest:

    Try the update on a different computer
    Contacting Support at 800-800-1020

    For your information it is all very strange!
    1. Still no .system file
    2. No serial number found with Garmin Express still
    3. Used MapInstall and loaded just UK and device was all ok
    4. Then used MapInstall again and selected all of Europe except Iceland
    5. Map 2014.40 seemed to have installed correctly and device fully works
    6. It seems from explorer that half the map data is on the device and the other half on the sd card
    7. Tried Garmin Express again and still get same message that it sees Nuvi2595 but not serial number

    It looks like Express is broken but there seems to be a work-around using MapInstall. Hopefully there is any problem doing that.

    Well, to be charitable, GE has been a "work in progress" for over a year.

    Strangely it worked 4 months ago with mine but will not now!!!!!!!!!!!

    Did you update it? There have been numerous GE updates. The last three weeks has been "quiet" but I expect that to change in April.
