Can't install garmin express nor map updater, windows 7 x64

EDIT: Turns out radeonPro was conflicting with the garmin Express software. I stopped the radeonPro program along with its support service and it started up perfectly.

I have a Nuvi 2555LMT which I have painstakingly updated the software version to 8.10 with firefox version 4 using the communicator plugin and myDashboard. However I'm unable to check&download updates for the map files. It tries to force me to use the Express software.

the map version installed is..
CN North America NT
2013.10 ALL

Garmin Express
As soon as the program is run, an "this program has stopped working" message pops up.
-I've verified versions of .net 3.0~4.5
-compatibility mode & administrator rights does nothing

MapUpdater
The program extracts properly but during the Garmin splash screen the "this program has stopped working" message pops up.
-I've downloaded an older version but I've downloaded so many files trying to get a working copy i forgot what version it was.
-Extracting with different archiving tools (7zip/winrar).
-compatibility mode & administrator rights does nothing

Everyone seems to suggest using mapupdator but it doesn't work on my computer...
  • Some PCs seem to struggle with some versions of mapupdater, I have to run a different one on my laptop to my desktop, toshiba laptops seem to struggle. If you can tell us which version of mapupdater you have it would help, I assume you're running Win7?

If so try this version GarminMapUpdater for PC and let us know if that doesn't work.

    Hi

I have recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi 2958 and tried your solution but it did not work. I cannot connect to register on Express and I am on windows 7.
    please can you help?
  • Not sure what your problem is, perhaps you could be more specific?

Express can be downloaded here http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html

When you run it what happens? Where does it fail? What error message (if any)?

    Hi

    the message reads

Garmin Express can't open because the internet connection is being blocked. try disabling firewall (tried this) and proxy settings (don't know where to find these) or contact network administrator to ensure network is not restricting. or internet provider is not blocking
  • Something is blocking the download. Have you tried cabling directly to modem/router if using wifi? Also check Windows Defender.

Try selecting 'run' from the Express website rather than 'save as' or vice versa depending on what you've tried already.
  • 1. Press the Windows key+R
    2. Type "services.msc" and press Enter
    3. Locate and right-click Garmin Core Update Service
    4. Click Properties
    5. Click on Log On tab
    6. Select This account
    7. Click Browse
    8. Type Network Service
    9. Click Check Names1
    10. Click OK
    11. Remove all text from both password fields
    12. Click OK
    13. Click OK again
    14. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Stop
    15. Right-click Garmin Core Update Service and Click Start
NOTE: This is not a permanent fix. These steps must be repeated if Garmin Express is updated to a newer version or re-installed.
