Nuvi 50LM - Language update problem

Wondering if someone could help me on this as I could not find a answer anywhere. I just updated my Nuvi50LM using the Garmin Express Software. After it was done I now have only one language to choose from in settings (Francais Canadien). I have all the languages for Text, and Keyboard but only have one to choose from for Voice. I have done a master system reset and that did not change anything.

So how do I get the Voice Language to American English when it does not give me that option?

Thanks

Don
  • The easiest way to get voice files is to log into myGarmin, select the myDashboard tab click on Software Updates and scroll down to Optional Updates. select Voices and then whichever English version you want. MyDashboard will install them without using Express.

  • Glad it worked for you. Hopefully the Express team are making (or have already made) the necessary changes to Express to ensure voice files aren't deleted in future.

Had the same problem. Ran Garmin's WebUpdater on computer obtained from their web site. There were multiple choice for English language. Choosing only English Language-American will not give you spoken voices on GPS. You have to choose one of them with the names (e.g., "Jack" for male voice, "Jill" for female voice, etc.). Once I chose one of the named voices when running the Garmin WebUpdater on my computer with the GPS unit connected to the computer, I am getting the voice prompts. Sounds like a bug in Garmin's program. Anyway, that solved my problem.
  • If you run Express, then select the Device tab and scroll down to the part where it says Language files, and choose the English ones you'll find you have all the voices necessary. It includes the TTS (text to speech) as well as the 'normal' voices.
