Garmin Zumo 660 USB not detected

Hi guys,

sorry in case I am posting in the wrong forum but my problem is correlated to the connection of my Garmin Zumo 660 to my mac via USB to reinstall system software and maps. Hope the device communication forum is the right one...

Anyway...
I recently purchased a map update because I thought I would need it for our upcoming holiday in Greece. I already had my Zumo for 2 years and it worked fine so far. When I looked into the update I noticed had to install the webupdater and garmin express etc. Anyway, cutting the story a bit shorter, after wuzzing around a and not managing to install the map update (due to limited memory) I got a microSD card and tried again. After 30 min on garmin express nothing really happend... it checked the SD card for a very long time and never moved on. So I thought there maybe a formatting problem (Mac related) with my SD card and partitioned it in a Fat32. However, I noticed too late that there was not only one drive visible on my desktop but two and I formated the first I noticed... which I recognised then was the main memory of the zumo. So the zumo memory was erased. :(
Since I never connected the garmin like this before I also did not have a backup. So now I have no backup files of any sort and what made matters worse, the zumo does not connect to the computer anymore. So when I start the garmin express software or the webupdater it does not recognise my satnav anymore when it is connected via USB.

I have already contacted the garmin support via email but haven't got a reply yet. Unfortunately, I will leave for my holidays in only a few days and hope there is some easy fix for this issue. I will try the support again via phone tomorrow, but I am afraid they might not be able to help or take too long.

Any advise on how I can reconnect the zumo and where I could get the system files back? I have the original city navigator CD and the new maps I bought online, but nowhere any usb drivers or system files in the box?
Which garmin systems files are responsible for the USB connection? I could just try to copy that file onto the SD card and then perhaps the zumo is mounting again?!

Thanks for any help!!

GarminDevice.xml is automatically (re)created when the unit boots. However if the internal memory of your device is full that can't occur.

Did you managed to resolve the issue?

i am facing the same problem now.

All i need to do is the get the Zumo to be readable so that i can paste back all the files... but it appears that the garmin can't be detected..

If the Zumo's internal firmware is healthy it will create a Garmin folder and a GarminDevice.xml inside that folder when it powers up. As long as these two things exist, any Garmin application should recognize the device when connected via USB cable. Though I do not know the extent of your situation, the Zumo's internal memory must be formatted as MS-DOS on the Mac and Fat32 on the PC. If the Zumo does not automatically create the Garmin/GarminDevice.xml file when it powers up then it will need to be replaced. Please contact Garmin Product Support by phone.
