Every time I try to open Garmin Express, it says that an error has occured and the program needs to close. I have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail. Please help. Is there an alternate way for me to get the maps to my device?

It would be really nice if someone from Garmin would come on here and let us know if they plan to fix these things or not.....

I doubt that'll happen. Falagar has already said that his group ("Desktop"--that is BaseCamp) has nothing to do with Garmin Express. If it did feedback posted here would probably be heard. Falagar did say, last week, that he'd contacted the appropriate group though.
  • ...and today Falagar added in the BaseCamp category: "I hear that not being able to install the maps on the computer is something that will be fixed in a future version of Garmin Express. But like I said before, I am not on that team, I just forwarded your concerns and it has been acknowledged." So perhaps a faint light at the end of the tunnel... or is that a train?

Nah... I just installed the latest .Net Framework (v 4.5.1) in response to this post because I have the same problem. Garmin Express crashes before it launches (loads). After installing the latest .Net Framework, the program still fails to load.
I have tried this on 3 different computers; 2 running win7 Pro and 1 running win7 Ultimate. On all machines Garmin Express has the same problem.

In my issues with Garmin Express being in a loop wanting to exit to update every time it ran I simply uninstalled it and reinstalled from the latest downloaded version from Garmin, all worked fine after that and it did the next three (out of 4 updates, 1 already having completed).

Same error (Must close) with FR10

Every time I try to open Garmin Express, it says that an error has occured and the program needs to close. I have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail. Please help. Is there an alternate way for me to get the maps to my device?

I get the same "must close" error when trying to use Garmin Express/Forerunner 10/Garmin Connect. Its a fresh download/install of Express, it recognizes my device (even shows me the serial number) but when I provide my Garmin Connect login info (I've tried both email address and username) I get the "must close" error and Garmin Express on my Win7 laptop closes without a trace.

Using mapupdater as a workaround doesn't fit this situation; I'm trying to get my run data uploaded to Garmin Connect. Seems like there's a more basic, underlying cause. Any clues/hints/tips?

    Thanks
  • Same "Garmin Express must close" issue here on Win 7 Pro with new install of Garmin Express. Trying to upload to Zumo 660.

I have used Garmin devices for years, and there have always been problems with the software updates/map updates despite installing various versions of Communicator, Express, Map Updater, Net 4.*.* etc. I own a Zumo 660, a Zumo 550 a Forerunner 305 and an Approach G3 device and there have always been issues when updating software on all of them. Whenever I get a problem I go onto these forums to try to solve the glitch and find that there are always several other users who have identical issue(s) and that we are waiting for Garmin to sort the problems out. I've added this comment, not for a moan, but to highlight that this thread started in 2013 and the problem persists.

Garmin - your software is often (usually?) frustrating and a timewasting irritant. I've already ditched my Forerunner (originally cost £300+) for the free version of Strava on Android - which works faultlessly when outdoors or with my Concept 2 rower. You will only get away with your shoddy software and poor after sales service until there are alternative products/apps then your customers will leave you in droves.

Today, July 3, 2014, I learned that if I install Garmin Connect in firefox, then insatll Garmin Express with the Firefox browser still open, it does not crash. I was then able to update the firmware in my Fenix successfully. Hope this helps!
