Hi,
I'm having problems updating the maps on my brand new Edge 850 using Garmin Express for Windows.
Edge 850: Software 32.20
Garmin Express: 7.29.1+6f36140f
Free space on Edge: 22.2 GB of 57.6 GB
Free space on my PC: 1TB
Current maps are TopoActive 2025.10, Trailforks 2026.10 and Basemap 9.0.
In Garmin Express, the update gets to “Applying Changes”, progresses to around 1%, then fails with “There was an error installing the update.”
As a test, I also tried installing just the smaller TopoActive Middle East & Central Asia 2026.11 update. This gets to around 507% before giving “Some changes were not applied.”
I've tried restarting the PC and Edge, different USB cables and ports, running Express as Administrator, clearing upload history.
I have also tried performing the map update directly on the Edge 850, rather than through Express. This fails with “Map Update Failed – Error code: 0” after about 5-10 minutes even though the Wi-Fi sync is working.
Any suggestions specifically for troubleshooting this through Garmin Express on Windows would be appreciated. I'm reluctant to factory reset the Edge or manually delete map files without knowing if that's the correct next step.
