Cannot update Garmin Express as expressinstaller.msi cannot be found

I have tried updating Garmin Express and have hit a wall with this problem

I have tried removing all trace of garmin from the registry, uninstalled using microsoft and 3rd party apps and still cannot get this to install now

It states ProgramData\Package Cache\{E6DF576-460E-4729-95F0-7DBA5FEEA62E}v7.27.1.0\ExpressInstaller.msi cannot be found

I am pulling my hair out

  • Since you have uninstalled Garmin Express, I assume, but want to make sure, that you are doing the installation by running GarminExpress.exe downloaded from https://www.garmin.com/en-US/software/express/windows/ ?  This would currently be v7.29.0.0.

  • Go to C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\ and then use the search feature at the top right corner and search solely on v7.29.0.0.  Much of that address may vary machine to machine.  Mine for instance is shown below and as you can see it is significantly different.

    C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\{28E75330-9E2A-4844-B477-626C833C9058}v7.29.0.0

  • i have tried from the link you have posted as was the original attempt with the same result.

when i search on packagecache mine is v

    E6DFA576-460E-4729-95F0-7DBA5FEEA62E}v7.27.1.0

  • The suggestion by @JohnfromPA was to search C:\ProgramData\Package Cache for all directory names that contain v7.29.0.0.   Personally, I would broaden the search by searching for *v7.* which will identify all files associated with a version 7.xx.x.x.  FWIW, I am still on v7.41 and my search found two directories. One contains ExpressInstaller.exe, the other contains ElevatedInstallerInstaller.exe (the double "Installer" in the name is not a typo).

A baffling thing to me is why the error refers to v7.27.1.0 if you are running the installer for v7.29.0.0.

When you run the downloaded GarminExpress.exe file, do you immediately receive the message about being unable to find ExpressInstaller.msi?  If not, what else happens before the error is displayed?
