I received a Nuvi 1200 through a work reward program. Can in the mail yesterday. I took it out of the box and took it outside and turned it on. It has enough battery power to start up and I played with it for about 15 mins.
After that I took it inside and got on the garmin web site to register my gps. The site said I had to update the maps so I did that. That took over 2 hours. I am using a iMac to update the maps. Plugged in my gps and went through the update process.
Once that process was done my gps would not turn on. When I do turn it on this is what I now get: 1)Garmin + copyright screen 2)Garmin + loading maps screen 3)Garmin + copyright screen including the Queen of Canada wording. After that the unit turns itself off.
I took it out to my car to hook it into the charger (thought maybe the battery was almost dead). Hooked up to the charger I get the same screens but once it turns itself off it turns itself on and goes through the same screens over and over and over again.
I logged into 'My Dashboard' and it could see my unit on the computer. The message there was that I needed a 'software update'. I did that. Now the dashboard tells me the software is up to date.
When the unit is plugged into my computer I can see the small picture of the garmin + computer at the bottom and it will stay on like that. But once I unplug it it will do what I have stated above.
I have tried to reset (holding the power button for 10 seconds). That did not help. I tried to hard reset (finger in lower right corner while turning on power button). That did not bring me to the reset screen.
Any advice as to how to get this thing to work???
