Proximity Text, GLX, All Languages Update Loop

I am trying to update my maps, but first Garmin Express insist on updating the Proximity Text, GLX, All Languages to 3.90.

The D165900.zip is placed on the unit, but does not seem to ever complete the process.
I saw another post, which suggested removing the zip, trying again, and powering-up the unit for several minutes before reconnecting to the PC, removing the device from Garmin Express, and then readding.  This does not help.

Garmin Express says the update was "successful," but continues to insist that this update needs to be done.

I was able to update the language file.

How can I get the latest maps to install?

  •   - Please try selecting View Details on the update, and selecting only the mapping to be updated. Let us know how it goes.

  • With "view details" the only option is to select the "Proximity Text, GLX, All Languages" update.  The Map one is greyed out.  There is a dependency.

  • Can you drop a picture and or video of that here please? And what device are you trying to update the maps for?

  • I was able to trick the Nuvi 52LM and express app to get the maps...

    Solution:

    • From Garmin Express Utilities, remove the Garmin device from the device list.
    • Close Garmin Express completely. Either disable running in background or use task manager to end all instances of Garmin Express.
    • Remove downloaded firmware. Use File Explorer to navigate to: “C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Firmware” and delete all folders from this directory.
    • Connect Garmin Device to PC.
    • Navigate to “Garmin” directory on Garmin Device. Remove any “.zip” files.
    • Edit the “GarminDevice.xml” file in this directory with an XML aware editor such as Notepad++
    • Find the following data segment:

    <UpdateFile>

      <PartNumber>006-D1659-00</PartNumber>

      <Version>

        <Major>0</Major>

        <Minor>0</Minor>

      </Version>

      <Path>Garmin</Path>

      <FileName>D165900.zip</FileName>

    </UpdateFile>

    • Change the “0” from Major and Minor to reflect the intended version (was 3 and 90 for me). This temporarily fools Garmin Express to believe you have the desired version installed.
    • Without disconnecting Garmin Device, restart Garmin Express and add Garmin Device.
    • Look for updates. It should NOT list the “Proximity text, GLX, All Languages” this time, however if you restart the device, the zero version numbers will reappear.
