On / off problems with my older Garmin Nuvi 52LM satnav

Old and new to this community but asking for advice re my Garmin 52LM satnav which after a few years not being used, only turns on randomly. Already tried new battery and soft and hard reset. Never know if it will jump in to life or not. When I do manage to connect to desktop computer it says the software is version 4.0. But when I google for latest software, Google says there is a version 7.0, but Garmin Express says software is up to date. So I am puzzled and I was hoping that if I could find a more recent satnav software version it would perhaps solve the on/off problem. Connections, chip, plugs, cables all good. Thanks.

    What does your device say about the software version? Desktop computer may be reading something other than the device software version.

    Thank you for taking an interest! The satnav itself also says software version 4.0 .Although I h\ave actually put a new Garmin battery in, I do actually wonder if the intrinsic software on the chip has a problem with the power. As I say, you never know when it will turn on or not. After a long rest it will turn on. But if turned off, then it will not immediately turn on. It is almost like the old car radios that you had to put in a PIN, where if you got it wrong, there was an increasing amount of time following each incorrect number before you were allowed to have another attempt! I wonder if a power surge or something may have damaged the system. Only my ignorant thoughts 'though.It's a shame as I quite like this satnav. Thanks again.

    I suspect then there isn't much you can do, other than replace it.
