Stop ride synching on Garmin Express

I have an Edge 540 and a Windows computer.

My wife has an Edge 540 but no Windows computer.

I would like to be able to use Express to update the maps on my wife's 540 but when I plug it into my computer it automatically synch's all of her recent ride (last 12 months!) to my Garmin Connect account which is obviously not correct. I know I can turn off the 'Always run in background' option which prevents automatic synching but as soon as I need to do something such as install new maps the synching will happen anyway.

Anything to be done about this or do I insist she buys a Windows PC just to run Express?

TIA.

  • Sounds like you are both using the same account email or her device is registered to you.

I have 4 people with devices and accounts all in my 1 Express program on W10. Each syncs to their account and updates each as needed.

I'm pretty sure that's what's going on. Using Garmin Express you have the option to install several Garmin Devices used by different users. But you need to specify the correct email address used on that users Garmin Account so that it syncs to the proper account.

Open Garmin Express, click on the icon for the Edge 540, then go to "Tools and Content." Under the info tab it will say "registered to." If it is not your wife's email that she uses for Garmin, then you'll need to click on change accounts, then remove the edge 540. Then add it back using the correct email address and password that she uses to login to Garmin Connect.
