I have a Navigator V and a Navigator VI. Prior to replacing my desktop computer the devices connected every time without issue for many years. But when I replaced my desktop, both Navigators connected up once but never connected again. They connected perfectly with an old laptop that I carry with me on trips so I knew the Navigators were not the problem. I did try changing out cables to no avail.
I spent two days trying things and searching articles and finally got a solution from Microsoft.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 have a feature where they will power down the USB hub if it is not in use. Microsoft recommended disabling this feature on the USB Root Hub that I was connecting the Navigator units to. And, that completely fixed the problem. Now my Navigator connects up every time. It takes about 30 seconds to a minute for it to do the connection, but it has worked 100% of the time for the past week.
1) Go to the start menu and search for "Device Manager"
2) Scroll to the bottom of the list for "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and expand the list
3) Find the item named "USB Root Hub" or "Generic USB Hub" (there may be multiple of them)
4) right click on the "USB Root Hub" and choose properties
5) Click on the tab for "Power Management"
6) Uncheck the box for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
I couldn't tell which hub my cable was connected to so I did this setting on all 4.
Microsoft also recommended going to the "Control Panel\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings" and modify the power setting for "Use settings\USB selective suspend setting\Setting" to disable suspending the USB device.
Hopefully this saves someone a few days of troubleshooting.
