Much more questions about soft- and hardware

Hello@All

I'm in in this edge 500 thing, still.

I installed this latest support advice for WIN 7 OS with Garmin Express, but it doesn't work, even with Framework 4.8. Any suggestions?

I installed Express v 3.2.6, what is running, but the error that the serial # isn't recognized, still persists. There's a label on the device's back, telling 1TK559956, could this be the number, and if not, where is it to find in the folder tree?

And, at least, I would like going on with @JaVaWa's expertise relating the last questions been made.

Regards, Peter

  • First thing. W7 is not aupported by Garmin,  so good luck with a workaround.

I have an old Edge 500, and it was released around late 2009 sometime and discontinued around 2019. Even so, my 500 that I use on a very old bike setup still connects to the current version of Express on W10 so I can download the activities.

Of course you could just use Garmin Connect Web and import the 500's activities straight from the unit and not bother with Expresss, providing you can get Connect web to work on W7 and if w7 opens the folders on the 500......

Sorry, I see the unit does connect to w7 for you. I think the ser# is in the XML file, not sure, it's been so long since I look at anything there since it's never updated anymore....the se# you posted looks correct, mine starts 1TK.....

  • 1TK559956

That is the serial number, but it cannot be found in the file GarminDevice.xml. That file contains the unit ID, a ten digit number (or 9 for very old devices). The Garmin servers know which serial number corresponds with a certain unit ID.

Importing the activity files manually in Connect web is a good workaround.

Don't use a very old and obsolete version of Express. Use version 7, the latest version that runs on Windows 7: download.garmin.com/.../GarminExpressWin7.exe

  • Hi, thank you for looking in again!

As I pointed out in some former posts, this dinoversion of G.E. is the only one that runs on my, admittedly, quite tinkered ThinkPad T61. So, nevertheless, I will give your link a last try.

    Thank you in advance! t. b. c.
