Nuvi 40LM Map Updates

I see there is a map update via Garmin Express for my Nuvi. I try to install & get a message stating I need a SD card to install the lower 48- United States maps. I don't want to fool with an SD card & then try to get it to work correctly. I had seen in the past, I believe, on the Garmin Express App that I could install a map region of the United States. I have not seen this lately as I need only the South Eastern States. Any help on this or a possible workaround is highly appreciated.

P.S. I have, in the past updated this navigator successfully using same personal computer with Garmin Express

    You can use Express to install the map to your PC and then use BaseCamp or MapInstall to install a portion of the map to your nuvi. Not sure though why you're averse to using a sd card, as with one installed you don't have to do anything to get it to work correctly, it'll just work.

    I agree with SUSSAMB, just get the card.  The device supports microSD memory cards from 4 to 32 GB.  A SanDisk - Ultra PLUS 32GB microSD HC UHS-I Memory Card is $12 at Best Buy.  Don't get anything bigger than 32GB.
