Express sends updates to watch even when auto update is set to off.

Automatic updates are set to off on my watch, a FR165M. But when I plug it into a PC and open Express it downloads and sends the firmware update to my watch. This is fine for time zone updates, but not when I've selected to not receive firmware updates. I was able to delete the update file from my watch to prevent it from updating. I wanted to wait until a more stable firmware was released since some users reported issues with the last couple of releases.

  • It will always download to the watch and wait for you to install it. That's the "feature" process Connect and Express see that update and put it on the watch. Just don't install the update from the folder on the watch. If you delete it, the process will happen again and again and again......until you are ready to throw the thing in a lake.

Are you saying it actually started to install without notifying you?

My bad. Maybe express does indeed update because you press Install.

Not using Express.. The watch should see the update on BT/WiFi and download it but NOT update.

  • It didn't start the install, but imo it shouldn't have downloaded or copied the update file to the watch, it's set not to auto update. I was at least able to delete the update file from the watch to prevent the update from happening.

  • That;s not the way it works. The update will be loaded onto the watch and then the watch should ask you if you if you want to install it.

Hence the term AUTO update OFF means YOU have to initiate the install..... Just be aware that if you go into the watch and delete the file, it will happen all over again. Your choice!

  • Ok, but it would be nice if it gave users a choice of updates to download. Even better would be the option to install older firmware in cases where an update causes issues.
