What version of Windows and what is "Windows Smart App"? Do you possibly mean Windows Defender?
John...
Windows 11 Home / Ver 24H2
The following is offered in explanation on Windows support site for this error...
"If you see this message, it means that an app, service, or piece of hardware that you’re using has tried to load a driver, app, or other file that isn’t properly signed."
In Windows System / Security it states that - - - If I disable "Smart App Control" I will need to re-install Windows in order to re-activate Smart app... Seems a little onerous...
Doesn't seem to be a way to whitelist this driver...

Oh Geez! Heaven forbid Microsoft should allow you do what you want with your computer. Smart App Control has value for a lot of users, maybe most users, but the fact that you can't override it on a per detection basis is absurd. Mine is off. I don't recall whether I made that choice during initial setup, it was set to off by default, or I encountered it early on and turned it off. Still, Garmin devs should be aware of it so should not be distributing unsigned/uncertified programs.
Agreed... The overall install package seems to be signed but the "ExpressInstaller.msi" either isn't signed or not signed correctly...
Installation gets about 1/2 way, locks up for a few seconds then generates the Failed Install screen...
The msi file notice shows up in my sidebar notifications following that with the link to MS support as per the original post...
Hopefully some smarty-pants can rectify this for me....
**** Just thinking - in case it's relevant information...
****** My desktop is originally a Japanese lang. version of Windows 11 purchased here in Japan then switched to English on setup - shouldn't matter but ?????
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-change-the-mode-of-smart-app-control-from/399a276f-5585-40fe-b72d-c014cac82b32 tells you how to turn it on, perhaps the same steps in reverse would allow you to temporarily it off.
As stated in the link - turning it off is not the problem...
But once off - you need to "reset" windows if you want to turn it on again - no temp off...
The same applies if you NEVER had it enabled to start with - need a reset to enable...
No thank you very much
Cheers,

I doubt it, only because I believe it is something MS would enable by default. If there is an option to disable it during initial setup then I have no doubt that is what I would have done. I just don't remember. I am extra cautious about what I install so I would have considered it intrusive instead of beneficial. My Win11 is a Pro version. Wonder if that makes a difference vs. the Home version. Higuma_FAL, are you by chance running Win11 in S mode?
No "S" mode...

My download is a GarminExpress.exe file. Is the .msi being created when the .exe is run?
It's whatever Garmin Express auto downloads when it says there is an update available...
Is there a manual download file available - I should check... Wanted to avoid a complete reinstall of GE because of having to readd all my devices...
