Does Garmin Expression still support Forerunner 301?

Garmin Expression worked fine with my dinosaur Forerunner 301. My last successful sync was on January 20.

I have been trying all kinds of ways to upload new activities to no avail since yesterday.

I have tried restarting Garmin Expression, rebooting my PC, and running GE on both Windows 11 and Windows 10. Nothing works. GE does not show any error messages, and it says the sync works, but no new activities created after January 20 have been uploaded.

The Forerunner 301 works fine, and everything appears normal. I can check its history to see all the activities after January 20. There are about a dozen of them.

  • I can restore any file if it disappears somehow.

That’s fine but since you know for sure that the Express logs folder possibly contains relevant info about a bug that you care about, I think it would be a good idea to just make a copy of the folder anyway. If you keep Express running for the next few weeks, I think all the relevant logs will be gone.

I’m guessing it’s a lot easier to browse to a local folder copy than to restore a backup from the cloud.

If this issue cannot be resolved by Garmin, I will use the Training Center to get the new activities out and say goodbye to 301.

If I were you, I would do this right away and not wait for this issue to be resolved by Garmin or anyone else. Assuming that you care about those activities.

You can’t just assume they will stick around forever. They probably will, but you never know. What if, next, Express decides to delete those files from your watch?

Also, best of luck! I hope your issue is eventually resolved.

  • I tried the Training Center on two PCs to no avail.

BTW, do you happen to know that Forunner 10 has only 1MB storage space? It sounds like a joke.

  • BTW, do you happen to know that Forunner 10 has only 1MB storage space? It sounds like a joke.

It's an old device (introduced 13 years ago) and it is an entry-level model.

  • I am sorry, but I have just realized my genuine question sounds rhetoric. I meant to ask you whether you know the memory size. It shows as a USB drive with only 1 MB once I connect it to my PC. I did some search but could not find the specs for its storage size.

BTW, I deleted all the activities on my Forerunner 301 older than January 21, but this did not make any difference in uploading new activities.
