Nuvi 3590 - Garmin Mode (USB cable)

Hi,

The official Garmin car charger cable has stopped working.

My car has a USB port...however, every time I plug in the USB cable to the Garmin, the Garmin Nuvi goes into "charging mode", and I cannot use it for navigation (I am using a micro-USB to USB-A cable)

I have found some online articles about changing the Nuvi from "mass storage mode" to "garmin mode" but I am not able to find any of the options people are talking about on my Garmin device.

I have the latest firmware and update on the Nuvi device.

Does anyone have a full proof method of using the Garmin Nuvi 3590 whilst its plugged into a USB port?

Quick update - I just tried another micro-USB to USB-A cable (I think from my Kindle) - and this cable allows me to use the Garmin Nuvi in navigation mode.

However, since the cable I have is very short, I'd like to buy a new longer one...but how do I know what type of "micro-USB to USB-A cable" to buy?

The content at cable might be of help. You might also disassemble the plug on your original Garmin power cord and verify that the fuse is OK. See Replacing fuse
