Can't unlock maps

NUVI 1340 LMT

Hi 

Hope somebody can help?

I have just downloaded maps to a micro SD card for the first time. 

(My sat nav came with a lifetime of free map updates. In this case the map file was too large and I was prompted to change region or put a card in.)

The problem I have is that the sat nav can't unlock these maps.

    Did you have the card installed in the device when you made this attempt?  What exactly is the device and where was it purchased?  What is the size of the mSD card and format?

    Thank you for your kind response. 

    I purchased the NUVI 1340 LMT from Halfords in the UK.

    It was retailed with free maps for life.

    I am not a stranger to installing updates and initially attempted an update WITHOUT a memory card. I was prompted to put a memory card of 4Gb to 32Gb (micro SD) in the device drive. I formatted the 8GB memory card and downloaded the maps. After re-booting, the error 'can't unlock maps' followed by a further error message appeared stating the device cannot be used without maps.

    I then attempted a 32Gb unformatted memory card and the maps downloaded fine but I still had the same message.

    I then reviewed the help website which suggested I delete any foreign files (to me, UK or American English), help, voice etc., 

    I did and loaded the October, 2024 updates to the NUVI 1340 internal  memory.

    BUT, I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! I STILL GET THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE!!

    Do I need an activation code?

    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi 

    Thanks for the information. I had seen and acted on the information on the referenced link. (That's where I found the bit about deleting files.)

    I need to contact Garmin customer service for support. This device is supposed to have map updates for life. It's clear they didn't expect the life cycle of the device to be 9 years or they would have put more memory in for map updates!

    Unless there is something I have missed or someone knows?

    Yours is a very old device so the following may apply, but as you've been able to download the map Garmin Product Support may be able to help.

    City Navigator Europe NT has been discontinued a few months ago. The nüvi 1340 uses this map, so it won't get updates anymore. On the other hand, it should be possible to install the last version of this map so you can still use the nüvi.

    Thanks for that.

    I have managed to download the Octobet '25 maps on the device after removing some unused help, language and voice files.

    The maps file I'd approx 3.9Gb.

    It doesn't address these and the error message is the same, can't unlock maps.

    Are.you suggesting I abandon my efforts and download the version of maps retailed by the originator/author?

    Only Garmin customer service can fix the problem with unlocking maps, I cannot (or other forum users).
