Cannot Unlock Maps - Garmin Nuvi

Connected my Nuvi to the Garmin Express app. It said I should update my maps - which I did. Now, when I start Garmin Sat Nav it says Cannot Unlock Maps!. Ive tried a hard reset - same problem. Is it something that can be fixed? Has Garmin now moved to a subsrcibe option? If so, can I go back to the maps I had just a few days ago and which worked fine. Anyone know what is going on?

Which nuvi? First thing is to try a reinstall of the map.

Nuvi58. Tried reinstalling. Same problem. Tried a factory reset....same problem. Tried, as a test, to install N American maps .....that worked OK. Very strange.

Nuvi58. Tried again, same problem. Tried a factory reset, same problem. Tried, as a test, to install N American maps instead....that works fine. Every time I install UK maps Garmin Express says it worked OK.....but I can't get access on the actual SatNav.

Did you purchase the UK maps? It sounds like the nuvi 58 was purchased in the US and is entitled to US map updates. Typically additional maps need to be purchased. There are also various models of the nuvi 58. A "58", a "58LM" and a "58LMT". Which have you purchased?

The Nuvi58. It came with UK maps and I've used it successfully for years....no problems. Just this last map update that has been the problem.

Have you tried any of the process outlined at Correcting the Message "Can't Unlock Maps" or "Can't Authenticate Maps" on a Garmin Automotive Device. Also, how much space remains on your sd card and what is it's capacity?

Thanks. Yes, tried them all. I've never had to use an SD card....routes were on internal memory....and there are plenty of GBs on there. The strange thing is....Garmin Express says UK maps downloaded successfully but, when I look in the appropriate folder, it's just a Bing link to what looks like a website with lots of gobbledygook on it. (I don't use Bing...I use Firefox...but can't see why that should be the problem....especially as all works fine if I download N Americ maps!)

OK. Thanks, will try that later today. PS: It's possible that, at the earlier map update, I MIGHT have removed the Nuvi58 before getting the OK to 'ejecti'...although I know the map update had, ostensibly, finished.

I tried the UK Maps Disappeared part - didnt help. I have over 5Gb available. Interestingly (?) in the Garmin Folder (where the US Maps ended up when I tried US map download to see if that would work) there is just a Bing link : file:///C:/Users/wingreen/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/INetCache/IE/L89CAHT4/GarminDevice[1].xml. (The US download ended up with actual files).
