GE 7.24 Administrator required for install - ??

Just received this update - ADMINISTRATOR rights need to be used when doing update. First time for everything.

  • Same here. For YEARS this wasn't required. Why now? And BTW, my account is set to Administrator, so there's something wrong with the Garmin end of this update which, IMO, needs to be looked at and fixed. Windows 10 here if that matters.

  • If I had to guess a reason, Garmin Express is installed in C:\Program Files (or the x86 version of the same) and wants to read/write a configuration file or database file that is in the same location. Normal users do not have permissions to write there, so elevation would be required.  I also see my my installation, a folder named "Express Elevated Installer."  That folder may have had the same name prior to this most recent update.

  • As mentioned above, my account is set to Administrator but installation "thinks" it's not and thus fails. Something is wrong on Garmin's end with this new release.

  • Mine updated without issue, both with Win 10 and 11.

  • Well mine did not update after years of working w/ no problems.

  • For grins I waited a few hours and tried the install again with same everything on my end. This time it worked. Gotta wonder if something on Garmin's end got fixed in the interim.

  • Glad you've now resolved it.
