Usually that means the file has a file association assigned, in your case Edge. Any chance you accidentally clicked on the file and then chose "Open with" and then chose Edge?
I might have. Was told to delete the xml file and it would reinstate when started up again. Just have been scratching my head. My DriveSmart shows up on the computer but Garmin Express cant locate it on this computer or another one I tried. I have an old Nuvi and it locates it so the cable or usb port isn't the problem. Might just have to purchase another gps device
I don’t see the need to buy new hardware for waht is clealy a software problem. Have you deleted the xml as somone apparently suggested?
Then you might want to remove the file association. You should understand that a file association is simply a method of opening a file with it associated program. For example, you don't have to open an "xls" file by first starting Excel. Simply double click on the xls file and Excel will open with that file open as well.
You can reset all file associations by goin to the Settings app, go to “Apps” > “Default apps.” Scroll down and click on “Reset” under the “Reset to the Microsoft recommended defaults” section. This will reset all file associations to their default settings. This rarely causes any issue unless
Another way is to use the Registry Editor and remove only the XML association. The method can be found at Remove file association windows. Note that those instructions are for removing a "bak" file so whereever it says "bak" substitute "XML". Once you do the Registry edit, reboot the PC.
Probably easier to do this rather than mess about in the registry:
Method 1: Change the Default App Settings in Windows Settings
Open the Start menu and search for Default apps.
In the Default apps settings, scroll down to the By file type section.
Find the file type that you want to associate with a different app, and then click on it.
In the Choose an app window, select the app that you want to use as the default for that file type.
If the app that you want is not listed, click on More apps.
If the app that you want is still not listed, click on Look for an app in the Microsoft Store.
Once you have selected the app that you want, click on Set this default app.
Method 2: Change the Default App Settings in File Explorer
Open File Explorer and navigate to a file that has the file extension that you want to associate with a different app.
Right-click on the file and select Open with.
In the Open with window, select the app that you want to use as the default for that file type.
If you want to make this the default app for all files with the same extension, check the box next to Always use this app to open . (file extension).
Click on OK.
Earlier you said “My DriveSmart shows up on the computer but Garmin Express cant locate it on this computer or another one I tried” and now your are saying “Still not recognized by Garmin Express although computer does.” Can you elaborate on what you are doing that leads yo to say “…not recognized by GE”?
I am trying to get updates since my DriveSmart hasn't been used for atleast a year. I connect the device to the computer then open Garnmin Express and it shows no devices. Click on add device and it can't locate it. Then the next page pops up with the heading W#t are you trying ti add. There are different choices. I click on the Drive/nuvi and Automotive one. then search again. Still can't find my device.
