Cannot Update preset (Check-In) messages on Garmin 66i with Garmin Express

I cannot update the preset (Check-in) messages or email recipients in my Garmin 66i.  I do not have a cell phone, so I must use the Windows Desktop App (Garmin Express).  I have tried the following:

1.  I edit the messages on the explore.garmin.com website (messages tab).  This works fine.  Under "Plans & Devices", I click "Sync & Update" & when I click the Sync Icon (right side of window), it just sends me back to the previous screen.  If I click "Collections" & "Sync Everything" - nothing happens.  The device is connected & current data is shown on the "Map" tab.

2.  I tried syncing via Windows "Garmin Express".  Clicking "Sync" appears to work, but when I check the device - no changes were made.  It is as-if Garmin Express is not syncing with the changes I made on the "explore.garmin.com website.  I do not see anywhere to change the preset messages in Garmin Express (only on the website) - am I missing something?

In summary - the messages are correct on the website, but I cannot get them to the device.

I am using the same Windows 10 computer that I used to originally set this up (a few years ago).  I am using the latest versions of Garmin software on both the computer and the device.

Any help is appreciated.

  • Garmin Express does not sync inReach related settings and data to an GPSMAP 66i (or any other inReach device for that matter).

    So you must use the Garmin Explore mobile app to sync any changed made on Garmin Explore website. See the support article Garmin Express is Not Syncing My inReach for more information.

    As for the syncing from Garmin Explore website, this is actually a bit misleading as clicking the sync button doesn't actually do any synchrosation. It just shows information that you need Garmin Explore mobile app to do the actual syncing.
