Garmin express can't update maps

Hello,

I'm trying to update the nuvi 255w maps to the newest, but it always says "There was an error installing the update."

Try to install it on my PC before the update but it can only download to 20% and the error message shows again.

also tried to remove the device, and uninstall the Garmin Express, but nothing worked.

  • which support should I look for?

  • Go to the link previously supplied and input your device (255W).

  • Hm....

I tried all of the methods for troubleshooting issues when updating the map. But none of it works. I always get the error like in the picture.

Uninstall Garmin Express, remove the device and restart the PC...

I'm using Windows 11, but I'm not sure if this is the issue.

  • If nothing in the FAQ helps then call Product Support

  • I have previously had problems running Express on 32-bit Windows 10. This time, I ran into the error after updating Express and while I was trying to update my Nuvi 2597 to the 2025.10 Europe map. I also tried installing to the PC with the same result. Just to forestall any other problems, I had connected the Nuvi direct to one of the front panel USB sockets using a Garmin cable.

The actual problem was solved by running Express as Administrator (right-click on the Express icon in the Start menu, select More). It took several minutes, during which Express was saying "Authenticating maps..." at 0%, and then it suddenly flashed green and the update was done. The map update was on the PC. Checking on the 2597, both North and South Europe are there. Now, I've got to check it works...
