Garmin Express doesn't find updates

I'm the owner of a Garmin Epix Pro with the Software Version 15.77. I also know, that there are updates for the TopoActive maps on the watch. Unfortunately, Garmin Express (Version: 7.20.3.0) fails to show me these updates.

After I connect my watch to the computer and start Gamin Express, the screen looks like this:

When I click the marked button (red frame, stating: "Refresh to search for Updates") the little round arrow spins but nothing else happens: The screen stays as it is and the watch shows the charging screen.

Interestingly: After I disconnect my watch, it shows that the software update 16.22 is available.

How can I fix this issue resp. install updates via Garmin Express?

  • Thank you for the link :). My problem differs in the following points:

    1. I am running Garmin Express on Windows 10.

    2. The round arrow icon does not spin forever, but for 2-3 seconds - than it stands still again.

    So far I have tried to re-install Garmin Express, but it didn't help.

  • I had in the past some problems with GE (Win 10). The only thing that helped: deleting all GE data/directories manually from my pc and install GE completely new. After that I need also a complete new installation of all my devices to GE.

    The last weeks I did not have these problems ...

  • I followed the advice of Gerd_NL and did the following:

    1. Uninstalled ALL Garmin software (Express, Basecamp, WebUpdater, etc.).
    2. Deleted all Garmin-related folders from Program Files (x86) and my user profile.
    3. Reboot.
    4. Install Garmin Express (with admin privileges).
    5. Add my device to Garmin Express.

    Unfortunately, the problem persists.

    One thing I noticed: When I add my device, the following error appears (right after entering my username and password): Sorry, we're having a problem communicating with our servers. Despite the error message, the device gets added to Garmin Express (so, not sure if it is relevant).

  • Unfortunately I have the same problem. I would like to update the map (TopoActive Europe), but Garmin Express doesn't show the update to me. I had the same problem already last year. Last year I "solved" the issue by updating the map by using the Wifi-connection, it took hours, and I had to restart the download process several times. Horrible. This time it even doesn't start downloading that way, the map is shown as in queue. I tried with Epix 2 and Forerunner 965. The "communication problem" is also present, without consequence as in your case.

    I would like to know if there are specific settings for Windows (I also use Win 10). I already made an exception für GE in the firewall. 

    I even would go to a Garmin Shop to update the map because it is so annoying, but there is no Garmin Shop. :(

  • Updating Garmin Express to Version 7.21.0.0 solved the problem :).
