Garmin Nuvi 265W + 50LM Not Displaying GPX Files in Favorites

Hello, I have a Garmin Nuvi 265W + 50LM

As of 4 days ago they worked just fine. Now I do the exact same thing I have done for 16 years and they Do Not Displaying GPX Files in Favorites any longer.

Please know I am not too familiar with tec terms so if I use the wrong words forgive me. :o)

I am a Geocacher and I have used a Garmin Nuvi 350 to help while Geocaching. It allows me to put the caches on the device and route to them while drive. This way I have easy to follow directions and it doesn't drain my Garmin Colorado 400t which I use when I get to the Geocache location. I picked up the Nuvi 50LM at a thrift store for $15 new in the box 4 years ago. I use it the same way only I load it with Lab Cache location. I find it doesn't clutter my screen and with a quick glance I can see if a Lab location is near by.

I love the system I have as extreme as it may seem. It makes for a less cumbersome day and I don't drain either my Cellphone or Colorado depending on which one I am using to log my finds.

Now to the problem, I picked up the Nuvi 265W for $5 at the thrift store and up dated it. Cleared the GPX Files as I normally do on the other GPSs and now I can't put anything on it. I can see the GPX files (or Waypoints?) in the GPX folder on the PC same as always but when I turn it on there is nothing in the Favorites folder, where it should be.

Because this happen and it was late, I grabbed the Nuvi 50LM, cleared the old files and added the new only to get the same issue???

I reset the Nuvi 265W and tried both again, nothing. I generated a new Pocket Query on Geocaching.com and followed the same prosses using the GSAK Program and again nothing.

I am to scared to try my Nuvi 350 or Colorado and risk what ever is happening with the other to them. All the GPSs are up to date and registered. I even tried using the Geocaching website to send one Geocache to the GPS and nothing. I Downloaded a list I made and Uploaded that to GSAK but no luck there when I sent the Waypoints to the GPSs.

I am not trying to Build a Route. I just want to be able to navigate to the Geocaches as usual, like any other POI. I have never had an issue before.

Also I was able to clear the Nuvi 265W but I can't clear the old caches from the Nuvi 50LM.

Additional note, I have to Gamin data transfer cable that my Nuvi 350 and the Colorado came with, both brand new. No generic cables or charging mounts.

Using my HP Windows Laptop is less than a year old and I tried using my 7 year old PC. Both of these have worked in the last few months with no problems and both are updated.

What other details can I add to help? Can the $5 Nuvi 265W have a Bug that ruined my Nuvi 50LM???

P.S. I know Nuvis are not normally used to Geocache with but I have found they have a fantastic accuracy compared to most handhelds. When I go out "carpooling" with other Geocachers they are amazed at how easy it is to use two and it makes Power Trails a breeze. :-)

Any help with getting my Nuvi 265W and 50LM in working order again is greatly appreciated.  .:.Rain.:.

  • Lots to think about here. First clearing old caches from your nuvi 50, check the GPX folder on your device and delete all the files it contains. Now boot your nuvi and clear favourites using the nuvi menu. They should now all be gone.

    Second, your 265 can't ruin your 50 ...

Third, try master reset of both devices then try sending .gpx files again. A master reset is the first thing to try after an update if a Garmin device doesn't operate as expected.

  • Thank you, it turns out I was just resetting the GPSs but as you suggested I googled how to do the Master Rest to be sure I was doing it right, I wasn't. :o) I tried a Master Reset and it worked on both. They are working again, thank you.

  • Great, I'll close this thread
