Garmin etrex 32x SD card update

Hi guys, sorry if this has been asked before but I've scoured the internet looking for some answers, I bought a Garmin etrex 32x a couple of weeks ago and decided to update it this weekend, I bought a SanDisk Ultra 32Gb SD card, class 10, not video enabled, I thought things were off when it took over 4 hours to update the maps, now I have an issue where the unit will freeze when booting up, I have to take a battery out to reset it and then it boots OK, I did take the card straight out of the packaging without formatting it, I'm using Duracell NiMH 1300mAh batteries, any advice?

  • I would put the SD card into a reader of a slot on the PC (if you have one) and run CHKDSK on the card.

How to use CHKDSK to repair corrupted SD card?

    • 1. Connect the sd card to your computer.
      2. Run Command Prompt as administrator.
      3. Type in the following command: chkdsk X: /f(replace X with the drive letter of the SD card you want to fix).
      4. Wait for the process to finish.
Retest card in the Garmin device
  • Could it be the SD card itself? Sometimes cleaning the contacts on it has helped me. And check it on another device.

  • Evening guys, thanks for the replies, I have managed to figure it out, I bought another SanDisk 32Gb card, I did not format it but stuck it straight into the 32x, when I updated the maps I only choose western Europe which massively reduces the file size and update time, down to 2 hours, when I rebooted the device it started almost immediately and now works a treat, excellent detail and very accurate.

  • Great, I'll close this thread
