Garmin Express 7.19.0.0 user interface not appearing on Windows 7 laptop

User interface not appearing when launching Garmin Express on my Windows 7 laptop started a few days ago.

Express.exe does get started as a process (as seen in Task Manager) but user interface does not appear.

Same no-user-interface problem when launching Garmin Express manually or when it is setup to automatically launch when a Garmin device is connected to USB.

I went through all the Garmin Support document steps to try and resolve this, including full uninstall and reinstall of GarminExpress.

I examined the Garmin logs in CL\ProgramData\Garmiin\Logs\Express  and they had error:

System.BadImageFormatException
Could not load file or assembly 'CefSharp.Core.dll' or one of its dependencies. is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700C1)
at Garmin.Omt.Express.App.<Application_Startup>d__14.MoveNext()

I google-diagnosed this and seems CefSharp.Core.dll is part of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x86) component. I noticed the GarminExpress install includes an install of this product, so I did a repair install of it through the Control Panel->Programs and Features.  No interface issue remains.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue.   The same GarminExpress 7.19.00 version works fine on my Windows 10 laptop.

  • The latest versions of Express aren't supported on Windows 7 (and 8) anymore. See support.garmin.com/.../

  • Hey JaVaWa,

    I really appreciate your help on this one! I'm not sure in all my Google searching efforts how I did not come across this article or why Garmin did not send it out to its registered customers. I also believe, but may be mistaken here, that my older version of Garmin Express notified me of an update being available,  so like always,  I went ahead with it, and the install appeared to work fine. Also not sure why the Garmin installer is not configured to disallow,  or at least warn, the user of its non-compatibility for Windows versions lower than 10.

    In any case I will give the install of the Windows 7 version a try.

    Thanks again, Brad
