Garmin maps install on basecamp

Hello,
Hope you are doing well.
I have 3 devices: Garmin Nuvi 3597, 1040 Solar and FR965.
With the Nuvi I can get Express to install the city navigator maps on the PC for basecamp, but I don't get that option on the 1040 nor on the FR965.
Any chance of garmin unifying this having this option for all the devices?

It's useful to have the same maps on PC.
I know there are workarounds, but they are a bit messy, ending up with not unlock maps on basecamp..and at the price of the devices I think it would be cool to have it.

Years ago you had to buy maps on CD (later DVD), for new maps, but also for every update. When lifetime updates were introduced with a higher update rate, they had to come up with a mechanism to install…

City Navigator maps are the same whichever device they are on so no need to install them again, or are you talking about different maps? Note unless Express has updated a map at some point you won't in any case get the option to install it to BaseCamp

Thank you for your help, the 1040 has garmin cycling maps and the 965 the topoactive maps

Did Express put them there? If not Express can't install them to your PC

They are managed by express yes. They are updated by express yes

See my earlier comment, have you updated them on your device yet using Express? If not you won't get the option to install them to your PC.

Yes but in a different computer. Imagine that doesn’t count correct?

As far as I'm aware provided your maps have been updated Express should show the option no matter what. If the option isn't showing just choose reinstall map, then the option should show after that to install to computer.

Hello,
Just double checked, even if I re-install the maps on the 965 or 1040 there is no option to install it on basecamp.
Would be good if garmin unifies that along ranges, specially when they just dropped support of the 965 concerning the garmin explore.

The TopoActive and Cycling maps cannot be installed on your PC, that option is limited to the City Navigator maps (and only when it is an update for a pre-installed map).

BaseCamp can use the map as long as the device is connected to your computer. Another possible solution is creating a virtual device: www.javawa.nl/virtualdevice.html
