Garmin Express prevents PC sleeping v7.19

The latest version of Garmin express prevents my Windows 11 computer from sleeping. I see a post from 6 years ago describing the same issue. I agree with gasteropd with the assumption that "express prevents the PC sleeping to prevent breaking a device during a firmware or map update, but it seems they forget to disable this again after the update is complete"

Garmin, please fix the software to allow sleep once the watch update is complete.

Everyone else, as a work around, open the app and go to settings and untick "Launch Garmin Express when computer starts" and "Always keep Garmin express running in the background".

  • If you are using a laptop, you might also want to the check the status of your selective suspend feature.  More at Enable or Disable USB Selective Suspend in Windows 11

  • Have you tried taking Express out of the startup. I see no need to have that running in the background whenever the machine is on. Kill the task as soon as the update is done.

  • Yeah, I have stopped it from starting when the computer turns on and from running in the background. Thanks.

  • Thanks for this. The setting is enabled.

My laptop still didnt sleep issues after removing garmin express. Maybe its a USB device that doesn't support the sleep states properly. A whole new avenue to investigate. Cheers.

  • Thanks, I couldn't figure out the reason!! Now I've removed it from startup.

  • Same problem observed here.  Latest 7.19 version seems to be borked.  I am also getting the following issues when running powercfg /requests

    EXECUTION:
    [PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume3\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Express\express.exe
Setting sleep prevention mode to ON.
    [PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume3\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Express\express.exe

In addition to this, I ran powercfg /energy and Garmin Express is coming up there as well, continuously sending the following...
