Express and Connect claim different sync dates for only device on account

Old Forerunner305, workhorse device.

Training Center on on Win7 PC never failed me.

Got a new Win11 PC, installed Garmin Express, plugged in the Forerunner at Add Device, looks fine, says synced today (9/29) at 3:48pm

Want o look at data, Express throws me to Connect on the web. Log in with same account.

It shows my data, but recent. "Devices and Sync Status" shows the Forerunner305, last sync 9/7/23 at 10:29pm.

So I don't see any data since 9/6. I ride 20+miles every other day, including yesterday.

The Forerunner HAS been sync'd with the Win7 Training Center every time I come back from a ride, including yesterday.

Note: Had Express on the Win7 PC, seemed to work, but regularly crashed, dot.Net errors.

Before I import all the old TC files and leave Training Center behind, it'd be nice to feel this Express&Connect pair was reliable.

Any insights would be appreciated

Thanks

  • ***UPDATE***

Rode this morning. So fresh data, unsync'd with the old PC/Old Training Ctr app

Garmin Express says it did the sync, as of today at 1:06pm.

    AAaaand....

Garmin Connect hasn't changed since Sept 7, 10:29pm.

    Just like yesterday.

I have no idea how most of this data got there unless it's sideways from Strava or Fitbit, both of which I also use on EVERY RIDE.

But not sure why it all stopped as of 9/7, Like I said, I ride 20+ mi, 4 times a week.

    Ah, Technology! It ALMOST works!!

  • *** UPDATE TWO ***

Further efforts: I connected the Forerunner with the usual cable and cradle to the old Win7 PC.

The Sync'ing graphic in Express (repeating flowing bar) which never showed up on the NEW Win11 PC, seemed to finally pause, and then acted like a usual activity bar, slowly filling left-to-right.

This behavior is similar to the old Training Center sync, which would rapidly run through four inputs, each named, each with a status bar as the data was transmitted. Often it would fail the first couple of times. But retries always finally succeeded.

When Express finished, I checked the Garmin Connect, and it now shows the bike ride from 10/2.

BUT: Same cable, same connection cradle, connected to NEW Win11, NEVER shows Forerunner as Connected. Tried multiple USB ports on the box, and a couple on the new hub I got for the PC. Never shows as connected.
    Version Notes:
Old Win7 is on Express 7.16.3.0, wants to upgrade to 7.18.4.0. I won't upgrade, as this may be where the behavior diff lies.
    New Win11 is on v7.18.4.0

Old Win7 PC throws a .Net error occasionally. Seems to be from this app. I will post that dump next time.
Hate that I'll have to keep the old PC just to get the data off this great old device.

  • *** Final Update >> Express/Connect works, but Training Center RULES! ***

Found out there's a Garmin-specific USB driver, which apparently installs with Training Center or just comes with Win7, but nothing like that by default on Win10 or 11.

Having installed that, (from "optional Windows Updates",) Express works fine on Win10 machine.

So now that I have it, and it feeds onto Connect, I see that I'll be sticking with Training Center.

No heart rate info at all in Garmin Connect dashboard from the Forerunner305 and chest strap, even though the Forerunner shows it throughout the ride. And that barely-larger-than-a-thumbnail map just sucks, as people have complained for over 13 years from what I've seen here.

    Great support, GARMIN.

It's so nice, in the ancient Training Center, to be able to zoom the map to at least half the screen, then drag an icon along my route and see my speed, altitude, AND HEARTRATE at any given point.
