ANT stick no longer recognized by Express

Express won't recognize my ANT sticks,  This problem occurred after I updated from 7.16.3 to 7.17.3.  I tried uninstalling 7.17.3 and reinstalling 7.16.3.  I tried two different ANT sticks,  I tried two different Windows 10 computers.  The sticks aren't recognized anymore in 7.16.3 or in 7.17.3  They sticks are recognized by Windows 10 and the drivers are up to date.

Any suggestions?

  • That was potentially one of the fixes in GE 7.18.0, but it has since been pulled back. Maybe the next update?

Resolved an issue with USB sticks and SD cards potentially not being detected.

I tested with my old 310XT and was able to add the device.

I'm running GE v7.17.3 on a fresh install of Windows 11.

  • I am not sure whether our stories ar elinked, but from the 3 devices I have GE sees only the one which is an MTP device. The others, which are USB mass storages, are neither visible, nor I could re-add them after their removal.

    Everything was fine until 7.16.x.x.

The additional pain is that when I restored my windows even the old GE version collapses, so there is no way to get rid of the new situation I am facing.

What if the new versions of GE (>=7.17.0.0) brought some incorrect drivers? I mean one can still see his devices in Windows, but not GE?

  • I was able to get my ANT sticks recognized again with the newest release of Express (7.18.1.0).  I uninstalled the previous version of Express and removed all the remaining Gamin registry extensions.  I then did a clean install of 7.18.1.0 and it recognized my ANT sticks.  The only remaining issue is that syncing with Garmin Connect is not reliable.  I have to manually synch my Vivofit 2 many times to get all the data to upload to Connect.

  • removed all the remaining Gamin registry extensions

Can you pls guide me in this matter?

I removed only the files under Programdata, Users and the express related data from my devices.

What to search for within regedit?

  • I didn't use regedit.  I used the free version of CCleaner utility to scan the registry and remove the Garmin registry extensions.   I have also used the free version of Auslogics Registry Cleaner in the past and it works fine too.

When you scan with registry cleaner software, it will show all the registry issues that can be fixed and you will probably see Gamin registry extensions like I did in my scan.

Garmin Express needs to be uninstalled before doing the registry cleaning.

  • I see, thx.

I know both Regcleaner and Ccleaner.

I will make a try after gathering some trust.

  • So your problem must have been  different, because finally I needed to rollback to 7.17.3, which works.
