Possible fix for 7.18.0.0 version on Win7 Pro x64
Garmin express crash on startup is related with System.AccessViolationException which is not handled in code.
To fix crashes go to folder where Garmin Express…
Windows 7 users only. Please rollback Garmin Express to v7.17.3 through this link:
- Windows 7 - Garmin Express v7.17.3
Please note: the Garmin Express system requirements are now Windows 10 or newer. You…
Managed to make it update to 7.18.1.0 today Tuesday 2023-08-29 by forcing express to run as Administratior
BUT it still crashes with 7.18.1.0 on Windows7 64bit
This is so sloppy from Garmin, hard to believe…
yup. works on my win7 pro 64-bit
thanks
Yes, mine too. All working fine now.
Oh well! Just ran the 7.18 with the fix and found that G created an update 7.18.1. OOPS it crashes the VERY SAME! Try again Garmin.
I performed the edit to the express.exe.config file that worked with 7.18 and this fixed the crash in the new 7.18.1
Yep! Still needs the particular modification to Garmin.exe in order to work properly. Works just fine after that!
Novice users have in mind that u might have to go to the Garmin.exe file, right click on Properties>Security & then change the access right to the particular file so that u can proceed with saving the changes u've made on it!!

This is so sloppy from Garmin, hard to believe it's not been resolved after over a week?
It works indeed.
Pretty interestingly if I make a system restore within my OS and goes back to an earlier version sof 7.15.x.x or 7.16.x.x the problem is still there, so this fix has to be used.
I conclude that not the version itself is the bug-source.
EDIT: Oh noooo, the fix does not work with this earlier versions.
OH BLOODY BLOODY BLOODY garmin express!
Whatever I did in the past couple of hours I could not use my Enduro and my Edge 530 with the new version, just my Fenix 6X. I removed the former two, but it did not help. I could not add them again.
The chance that within 24 hours two different devices got corrupted is close to zero.
Interestingly after I removed my F6X I could readd it.
I also cleaned any reference to earlier links between Express and my devices, both on devices and in Windows.
Siiiiiigh!
I guess the difference comes from that Fenix 6X is an MTP device in Windows, while Enduro and Edge 530 are simple USB mass storages.
Btw Windows Explorer shows all the three, the drivers are fine etc.
