Edit default speeds

Is it possible to edit the speeds used to calculate journey times?
I use the satnav (Drive Smart 50) with a slow motorhome and the journey times are always underestimated

  • I don't think you can modify the speed for a given stretch of highway type that will be used in the calculation.  It should however be a calculation that is continuously updated.  So for example you are travelling 50 miles on a highway posted at 60 mph.  60 mph is 1mile per minute.  When you leave your driveway the device will display an arrival time approximately 50 minutes in the future.  If you chose to drive at 30 mph, 2 minutes per mile, the device will update the arrival time to reflect something longer than 50 minutes.  But "yes" it won't do this immediately, it continually calculates the arrival based on how your are driving.  Stop for a burger and kill 30 minutes, then that 30 minutes is added to the estimated arrival.

Having said that make sure your setting is to determine the route based on shortest time, not shortest distance.  As an example, I once borrowed a GPS that had been set to shortest distance.  I travelled a route from Schenectady NY to a suburb of Philadelphia.  It routed me through downtown Princeton NJ, and on a Friday late afternoon.  It was a horrendously long trip timewise but met the criteria of "shortest distance."
