If something is so large that may takes too long to download, there are several ways of doing that, like having a button to pause/resume download, use offline installer, and download by segment. However, Garmin be like "you didn't finish the download in three hours then better luck next time".
I feel like I need to move to somewhere with better internet to update my devices.
Edit: during my first stall, my task manager shows like 80 kb receive.
Generally you can pick up where you left off. But I think you need to investigate the cause, otherwise it might just result in a repeat situation.
A few questions:
1. What is the device you are updating?
2. Do you have additional memory added to the device? This is typically a microSD card?
3. Have you tried other USB ports on the computer.
4. In a laptop, power management may shut off power to some USB ports so make sure you are plugged in. Check the USB ports for power settings.
I was having trouble with this, too, and decided it was the horribly narrow bandwidth of my home Wi-Fi network that was responsible. Took "forever," but it finally finished.
Mine started over from the beginning, didn't save from before.
Which is why Garmin doesn't recommend using WiFi for Express, see system requirements here
