Garmin Nuvi 2599 in boot loop after 8.80 update

After an update with Garmin Express, there was a problem with the SD card. Following other advice here on the forums, I formatted the SD card and reinstalled the card using Garmin Express. Garmin Express described the map update as successful, but after restarting the device without a connection to the PC, the device is now in a bootloop.

When connected to a power supply (via TMC car adapter or via USB), it displays the GARMIN logo and switches off again. So the logo is flashing slowly. There is no longer a USB connection, which is why you can no longer do anything with Garmin Express or the RGN Updater.

Is there a way to reactivate the device or get it out of the boot loop?

  • Hello,  RedRobinFeedback

Did you tried to attempt a Hard Reset by holding the power button for at least 20 seconds? If this doesn't work, you may need to perform a Master Reset by following the device.

  • Try plugging it into power without switching it on. It could simply be the battery needs a good charge.

  • Thanks for your answer. It turned out to be a common problem with the update process not taking care of the usage level of the internal filesystem. I found a thread with a hint that something like a Master Reset will enable the PC to access the internal filesystem. Removing not needed files, like old GPS tracks or not needed languages etc. and performing a FAT filesystem check is solving the problem. After that I reinstalled the map with a new microSD and now the device is working fine again.

  • Great. I'll close this thread.
