Dear Sir, I downloaded Garmin Express for Windows 7.13.3 and the installation went smoothly. I removed the micro SD card from my Garmin Nuvi 40 and inserted it into the adapter. Windows immediately detected it as the E:\ drive containing the GARMIN folder, with two files GMAPSUPP.IMG and GMAPSUPP.UNL from 2012. I have to go on a trip soon and I wanted to update the map of Europe (Adria?) due to changes in streets and other things, but the Garmin Express app "doesn't see" the E: drive at all! I've changed USB ports and can't update the folder! Please help me. Thank you
  • Run Express with your nuvi connected. Insert the sd card if prompted.  The fact you have a nuvi 40 and a map dated 2012 may mean you don't have lifetime updates.

  • At first, thank you for your kind response, but it doesn't help me. I'm not eligible to update the map because my device is outdated? Nobody told me that when I bought the device. So, you buy a device, you use it, changes happen in the road infrastructure, new roads and highways appear and you can't see it, you have to buy a new, preferably Garmin, device!? To me, this is an outrageous explanation and a message that I will choose another manufacturer the next time... So, this device that I have is like a clock that goes fast or late for a quarter of an hour: it's not that I don't have a watch, but I don't have the exact time either. Unbelievable. Next week I will buy another navigation, but not from Garmin

  • The T&C’s for “Lifetime” map updates, assuming your device is eligible, includes the following statement.

“A product will be deemed to be out of service and its useful life to be ended if no updates have been downloaded for such product for a period of 24 months or more.”

So if indeed your lifetime privelege has expired because you have not connected since 2012, then you’ve created the situation.  I suggest you call customer service and see what they might do for you.

  • You misunderstand what I wrote. Many older devices didn't come with lifetime map updates. That would have been clear when you bought it. You can now if you wish buy a lifetime update package. Devices that had it cost more than those that didn't.
