There was an error installing the update - Honda Civic

Hi there,

I have a 2017 Honda Civic and am trying to update the maps on it. It keeps telling me they are out of date.

I followed the instructions here: https://support.garmin.com/en-CA/?faq=4qpP6QRT6r105RJ1sELgM7

An everything works fine up until Install (Map Care Updates) step 3. Once I click on Install a few seconds later I'm presented with the red banner that says "There was an error installing the update"

I am assuming this is because I need to purchase an update since my car is so old. However, there is no "Pricing" button showing where indicated in the instructions.

So:

  1. Either I have to purchase an update and my question is how do I do that?
  2. Or it's supposed to work and it's not, How do I fix it?

Cheers,

Damon

  • You should go to Honda map update and review the content.  It appears that a 2017 Honda Civic only came with 5 years of free updates.  Owning a 2013 Accord, I would suggest unless you have some dire need to have the maps updated, consider not doing it.  It may not be worth the money.  You can purchase a stand alone Garmin GPS for much less.
