NUVI 2597 Once I reduce size of memory to " lower 49" I loose voice comands "Find Place"

I lost Voice searching when I limited my maps to save memory. I tried adding

a 2G SD card and got back to "US & CAN, but still cannot Voice Search.

How do I get back to full featured?

  • I'd also suggest you bump that SD card up to about 16GB as a minimum.  2 GB hasn't been enough for quite some time

  • I am trying to get back to full featured 2597 right now.

I added a formatted 16 G sd card, and started an UPDATE.

Express said it would install on the sd card, and said It must

stay in the device forever.  It said it would take 3 hours

Ill let you know if the voice " find place" works when done.

  • I see a short discussion but there is no depth for the logic behind.  It seems that as the 2597 ages

there are work arounds to the small internal memory and possible ramifications. Like limiting

the map areas, throwing away all unnecessary languages, and if there is a way to ever get

back to a full featured device. I added the 16 G sd card and started to install upgrade and 2024 maps.

    I hope it works.

  • It will once the full map is installed

  • I am talking to a true Garmin Expert.

I went back to full mack with voice commands working US and Canada.

I worked like you said.   I have a second 2597 that I installed a 2 GB sd card and

installed a partial map. After updating The memory left shows 1 GB, if memory, with

no sd card showing.  How do I get back to a working system with sd car empty so I cn remove the

card and install a larger sd card and get back to a full functioning 2597?

Once the sd memory doesnt show on Express I am afraid to remove it to insert a larger sd card.

Afraid that removing it will cause a crash.

  • I doubt if Express has put anything on that card, if it has simply copy it across to a larger card. Note stick to 32Gb or below as otherwise the card will need reformatting as larger cards above 32Gb aren't by default FAT32 which is necessary to work with your device.
