download map updates and save for later installation

ok so as the title says

download map updates and save for later installation.. Is this possible... I have a fenix 5x plus that has an update but I don't need it just yet but would like to have a back up ready to install when I need too... Can this be done ? if so how??

It is possible that the action you mention may already be done, although I can't speak directly to your need for the Fenix. Examine the folder at C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Map. My previous downloads, for automotive GPS devices, are in that folder, each being about 7 GB. I only keep the last two versions in case I have to do a roll-back, which I haven't needed to do (yet).

Yep I thought that would be the case but it will not even download the map if there is not enough room on watch hence asking the question to see if there was a hack or something.. Really annoying..
