Maps updating on Garmin Express - Nuvi 42 succeeds & Nuvi 2495 fails

Hi,

I did a map update on a Nuvi 42 which worked and then tried on a Nuvi 2495 a few minutes later and it failed with same cable, PC etc. Error is "There was an error installing the update". Things I tried:

- Reset user data with hold bottom right of screen and tried to re-install original map. Same error

- Uninstalled and reinstall Garmin express

- Rebooted many times

- This was a Win 11 machine so tried on Win 10 machine with same result

- Change from MTP to drive letter

Support says I need to send in for repairs? Any other quick ideas before I send it in?

Hi, thanks for the tip. Tried this method and it still fails with same error. It updates software on the card fine and installs vehicles and voices but map reinstall generates an error. When I go to Garmin Support and search for my serial number I get an error. Something strange is happening.

Where exactly are you plugging in the nuvi 2495? Try to avoid plugging into a hub or any accesory port on a monitor. Also, if using a laptop try a different port, or verify within Windows that the port being used is powered on.

Hi John, thanks for the reply. I have tried multiple ports and even another computer but it does not work. I used the method that SUSSAMB suggest where I only copied the garmindevice.xml to a SD card and still had same problem. Software updates and vehicles etc but not maps. The Nuvi42 updated fine on same system.

I read in other answers on this forums that there can be corruption on Garmin side, they had to fix the online records for the device for a map update to work. I am guessing I am in the same territory.

I guess I will send in for repairs.

Certainly sounds like the 2495 has an issue. Does the connector feel tight. I’m aware of some people that had some connector issues. Also, a “longshot” but try what is discussed at forums.garmin.com/.../nuvi-2495-keeps-shutting-off-while-updating-maps
