When adding iTunes music files in Windows, files with the M4P extension do not sync. I use Apple Music so most of my music is in this format.

I know there are a few posts on this topic, but this is probably and easy answer and probably a feature request from Garmin.

M4P files are those you download with your Apply Music subscription. I'm guessing that I won't be able to sync any mysic files that I download on my Apple Music sub.

Has anyone got around this issue, or is this something that just can't be done?

  • Google is you solution - if you can be bothered to search.

"A file with the M4P file extension is an iTunes audio file, or sometimes called an iTunes Music Store audio file. It's really just an AAC file that's copy-protected using a proprietary DRM technology created by Apple. This format is seen when downloading music from the iTunes Store."

  • Agh a funny, read the whole post if you can be bothered Joy  M4P is of course protected, that’s what the P is.

hence suggesting this is probably a feature request, like Spotify and Deezer, which also require paid accounts. Otherwise artists don’t get paid!

I did and if you had bothered to read the linked article it offers possible solutions to your problem.

For Garmin devices to be able to play Apple Music DRM protected files Apple will have to create a CIQ app which I expect since the release of the Apple Watch Ultra is even more unlikely.
