most apps/watchfaces/datafields cannot be configured via Garmin Express Windows anymore

At some point in the past year or two, Garmin disabled the ability for many apps to be configured via Express on Windows

For example Rails watchface, I used to be able to configure it with the three dots in the apps listing on Express for Windows

Now configuration is only available via the mobile Garmin Connect app.

Same thing for DozenRun app, the three dots is now missing, only can be configured via garmin connect mobile app.

There are still a few that can be configured via Express for Windows but the pattern seems to be older apps only.

So Garmin basically disabled that ability on newer apps?

How about fixing that, I do not have access to a mobile app to reconfigure it and the bluetooth on my Fenix has been broken for ages so windows USB is the only method.

They just didn't want to write the code to support the newer API on Windows? What?

(yes I am running the newest garmin express for windows and watch is freshly reset with apps freshly re-installed)

  • Here is a screenshot of the problem.

Note the watch was complete reset and re-formatted only a few days before this but the problem existed before and after.

The apps were all freshly downloaded.

  • Well the good news is the three dot are now back for those datafields and watchfaces

But part of it might be that I changed from a Fenix5 to a Fenix5plus so maybe everything reset

For a couple days I could not access the APPS button in Windows Garmin Express, there would be a "server unavailable" error

    But it worked today.

Now the new problem is the setting set with the three dots never make it to the watch.

Tried restarting the watch, tried re-sync-ing nothing works.

They do seem to be remembered by the Garmin servers but never make it to the watch.

The settings DO change via the phone app but I don't always have access to that.
