Can't update maps on Nuvi 2595

I am trying to update maps on a Nuvi 2595. It either gets stuck on preparing for map update or starts and gets to 0.1% then the data rate keeps going down and the time to download goes up. Have tried all the fixes I see online - latest version of Express, new USB cable, chkdsk, remove and add device. It's not internet connection because I'm on 1.5 GB fibre. I have successfully updated this device a few years ago. Just can't do it now.

If you're sure you've followed all the steps in the relevant FAQ call Product Support. Before you do try switching the device to mass storage mode to see if that helps as Windows occasionally has problems with mtp devices.
