Cannot update maps Edge 530 using Garmin Express

Just got my new Edge 530, last garmin was the 705.

Impressive as expected but OMG how do you get updates? Garmin express WILL NOT download the updates. It start at a pathetic 100kbps then continually drops to nothing after about 1%. Its saying 4+ hours for 140meg trailforks update.. how long with the full map take!!

I have tried different computers, internet providers etc. It just wont download the updates! Is there a manual way to do this, I remember doing this with my old garmin device.

Its not a show stopper but pretty bloody annoying, having wasted ALOT of time to get the updates

    I ended up getting maps updated.

    What worked was using a laptop with wifi AND mobile hotspot. When the download appeared to stall I switched connection (I get a warning from garmin express saying internet lost, this goes away when new connection is made) and the download rapidly accelerated 30-40% in one hit. I did this a couple of times and had it done in 10 minutes. Clearly something in the background not working with the front end.

    But hey, sounds like this app causes many issues for many people. I managed to find a solution on my own.

    Great that you got things resolved!  It would be highly speculative as to what may have been the root cause, and of course it could be the result of multiple things interacting.  But I have to say that thousands of people use GE without issue and more importantly without doing anything special, so perhaps the cause is at your end.  I was plagued for several years with getting the GE splash screen and then it would shut down.  After several attempts it would run and I could perform updates in the normal manner.  About a year ago I ran the Windows compatibility troubleshooter and the problem totally disappeared.  My relatively “clean” Windows 10 Dell laptop chose to run GE with Windows 8 compatibility.  I have no idea why; GE is compatible with Win10, but my installation thinks not.
