Map Updates Extremely Slow

Ok, I've read numerous other posts and the Garmin Rep SUSSAMB keeps telling everyone that the problem isn't on Garmins end, I'm not buying it. I updated the maps on my Zumo XT last night with no issues. I immediately followed that with an update to my Garmin Motorrad Navigator VI, which I started at 8:35pm. This morning, at 6:45am the Motorrad Navigator VI is still updating and not even close to 50%.

I ran an Ookla Speed test on another computer I have at the house at 9:00pm last night and again at 7:00am this morning and the download speeds are between 332.65 and 355.53 Mbps respectively. Definitely not a problem on my end. I watched the speeds drop last night as I was updating the Navigator VI.

I'm not looking for assistance, just making a point. I'm going on a trip next week, I hope it's finished by then. I dread every time I have to deal with Garmin Express software and map/gps updates.

  • Please note I'm completely independent from Garmin, I am not a Garmin rep, just someone who has used numerous Garmin devices and programs for around 12 years.

If one device updated with no issues but the other didn't it's possibly a problem with that second device. How much free space does it have?

  • I have a 1 gig fiber drop at mu house.  It is very quick.  right now my map down load is running at 49.2 KB/s so it will take about 9 hours.  Not at my end.  This is dial up modem speed.  Garmin needs to hire some better network engineers.

  • My map updates complete in around 30 minutes and my download speed is under 100Mbps. Contact product support so they can see what is slowing it down on your system.
