A newly bought map appears in Garmin Express for the wrong GPS. How do load it on the GPS I choose?

I have several Garmin GPS's, including an older 64s and a new 65s - they're both registered and will appear on my Garmin Express.  I'm repurposing my old 64s for a different use, now for my boat, and I bought the new 65s for camping.  I just bought a new map, LakeVueUltraWest, that I want to load on my 64s, but it doesn't show up on GE when that 64s plugged in.  However, when I tried and plugged in my 65s, the map shows up, ready to upload.  When I bought my map, Garmin didn't ask me which GPS I want it for -- shouldn't I be allowed to choose for myself?  I seems Garmin chose for me, choosing wrong!  How do I put that map on my 64s?  Thanks.

  • Sounds like inadvertently you've linked that map to your 65. You need to call Product Support to resolve this.

  • I agree, but how would I have inadvertly done that?

I went to the Garmin website, and going through the 64s product (not the 65s) to make sure it's compatible, I picked out my LakeVueUltraWest map.  I never indicated I want it for my 65s, nor was I questionned by the website as I made the purchase as to what GPS it was intended for.  I just seems that Garmin unilaterally and/or automatically chose my 65s only because it was my newest acquisition.

Does this mean that whenever anyone buys an additional GPS, they can never again upload maps to their older GPS?  ...that only your newest GPS is allowed by Garmin to get new maps?  That seems to be the case illustrated here, but does that make any sense?

  • No, that's not the case. You can certainly upload maps to whichever device you choose. Either inadvertently you selected the wrong one or something went wrong at the Garmin end. Either way you need to contact Product Support for help

  • I have been in touch with support since before I signed on here - on Friday.  We've actually corresponded back and fourth 3 or 4 times on Saturday (today, Sunday, has been an hiatus) and they promised to get back to me tomorrow (Monday).  Meanwhile, they've been suggesting a lot of things, blamed my cable (but it worked to download maps on my 65s), blamed my sign-on email, etc., and told me to delete my 64s from GE and then reinstall it, sign on to it, etc.  All to no avail.

They're now stumped, and referring to problem to bigger experts "up the ladder".
