Garmin Express doesn't start

Customer service doesn't respond.

Express doesn't start, startscreen pops up and that's it.

.NET is up to date, removed maps, tried %localappdata%, registry, reinstalled.

I'm out of options!

Some help would be very nice Garmin, English, Dutch whatever

  • i have exact problem and also tried all the mentioned solutions -  windows 11

  • I've often had that issue and with many GE versions.  Even drilling down with File Explorer to the executable (C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Express\express.exe) and running it directly will frequently result in just the splash screen.   Almost always, a reboot clears up the problem, but temporarily more often than not.

  • I had the same problem of garmin express not going past startup screen. Called customer service and after about a week their developers told the support lady to ask if I had a file called datacenter.cfg under C:\Program Data\Garmin and I found that file and they told me to delete that file then restart my computer and that fixed my problem. Works great again am using windows 10 home version 21H2 with latest updates. Hope this helps if you find that file.

  • Thanks Jerry.  I actually don't have that file on my Win 10 laptop, nor anything else close in name .  I did a wildcard search on datacenter.* and Windows reports nothing found.  I've also noticed that in about 5 attempts to open GE today, that on every attempt it readily opens, in fact quite rapidly.  Perhaps Garmin has finally listed to the half-dozen or so people that have recently indicated they had the issue.  I'm running GE version 7.11.1.0 which was released late yesterday or early today.

  • Thanks Jerry but file not found.

I’ve had multiple options from customerservice but all standard solutions. I tried to delete all today and install with 7.11.1.0 but still the same problem.
Startscreen and that’s it not running.

service is really bad and you get response after a week or so

  • Thanks for your reply uninstall is tried a lot of times and doesn’t solve the problem.

clean registry whatever, start again and here we go again same problem. Start screen that’s it.

  • The few times I have had this happen the problem has been with missing and/or corrupt .NET assemblies.

Run the Microsoft tool linked below and see if it helps:l

    Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool

  • Interesting that you bring up .NET.  The same day my GE started working reliably I also did a Windows 10 update that included the 2022-01 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64.
